
The volume of exports fell by 5 per cent or 2,085 tonnes, much of it attributable to a decline in clipfish exports.
“Exports of clipfish fell in October, although for the year to date we have never sold more clipfish and if the overall trend continues we could see a new annual export record,” says Ove Johansen, manager groundfish with the Norwegian Seafood Council.
The value of exports of Norwegian clipfish in October totalled NOK 346 million. This is a reduction of NOK 198 million or 36 per cent compared to the same month last year. The volume of clipfish exports totalled 12,480 tonnes, down by 32 per cent from October last year.
The value of exports of Norwegian Cod clipfish in October totalled NOK 190 million, a reduction of NOK 117.3 million from October last year. At the same time, the price fell by 12.8 per cent or NOK 5.62 per kg. The value of exports of Norwegian Saithe clipfish in October totalled NOK 117.7 million, down by NOK 41.2 million or 26 per cent from October last year. October also saw a price reduction of 5.7 per cent.
Brazil was the biggest market for clipfish in October, with exports valued at NOK 104.6 million, closely followed by Portugal with exports valued at NOK 92.9 million.
Growth in exports of salted fish
In October the value of exports of salted fish, both whole and filleted, totalled NOK 56 million. This is an increase in value of NOK 21.2 million from October last year. The volume of exports of salted fish totalled 1,953 tonnes, an increase of 557 tonnes or 40 per cent compared to October last year. The price fell by 15 per cent.The biggest market for salted fish in October was Portugal, with exports valued at NOK 22.2 million. This is an increase of NOK 7.8 million compared to October last year.
Stockfish exports up in volume, down in value
The value of exports of stockfish in October totalled NOK 98.5 million. This is NOK 15.8 million less than in October last year. The volume of exports was up by 51 tonnes to a total of 993 tonnes.The value of exports of Norwegian Cod stockfish from Lofoten to Italy totalled NOK 57.4 million, a reduction of NOK 7.4 million from October last year. The average price fell by 14 per cent to NOK 112.46 per kg.
Major growth in exports of frozen fish
In October, the value of exports of frozen Norwegian Cod, Saithe and haddock totalled NOK 349.2 million. This is an increase of NOK 55.1 million or 19 per cent from October last year.The value of exports of frozen fillets was down by NOK 40 million to NOK 41.9 million, while the value of exports of frozen whole fish increased by NOK 95.3 million to a total of NOK 306.1 million.
The biggest importer of frozen groundfish from Norway is China, with imports in October valued at NOK 120.8 million, up by 32 per cent from October last year.
Growth in export volume of fresh products
The value of exports of fresh groundfish products from fishery in October totalled NOK 109 million, down by NOK 1.8 million or 2 per cent from October last year.The volume of exports of fresh whole Norwegian Cod increased by 645 tonnes to a total of 1,160 tonnes, up by an impressive 80 per cent. The average price fell by 10 per cent or NOK 2.58 per kg to NOK 23.30 per kg compared to October last year.
The value of exports of fresh fillet products in October totalled NOK 21 million, a reduction of NOK 10.1 million compared to October last year.
Exports of Norwegian Cod from aquaculture, both whole and filleted, were up in value by NOK 2 million from October last year to a total of NOK 14.8 million. The average price of whole Norwegian Cod was up from NOK 25.27 per kg to NOK 31.50 per kg in October, an increase of 25 per cent.
