The National Investment Promotion Agency is in the heart of social and economic system of the country since its establishment in 2001. It encourages the promotion of investment in Djibouti through a policy of flexibility in investment operations, a modern regulatory framework and procedures.

As part of the investment promotion and development of knowledge of the Djiboutian territory, NIPA is responsible for putting forward the incentive environment of the Republic of Djibouti and investment opportunities.

Localisation

Djibouti has a coastline on the Sea of 372 km of and a maritime area of 6280 km2 at the crossroads of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. The country is surrounded by Ethiopia to the west, Eritrea to the north and south by Somalia. Djibouti is located at a strategic side of one of the largest areas of maritime transit in the world and is near the largest oil zone in the world.

Sectors

The primary sector, including agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing, has recorded an annual growth of 3.5% of GDP in 2010. However, this is an area deemed with high priority by the Government in its strategy against poverty and improving food security.

Traditionally, fisheries practiced in Djibouti are a food fish. With 372 km of coastline, the area of continental shelf Djibouti exploited by fisheries is about 2 276 km2. The fishing zone exploited by the artisanal fisheries is those in sandy facies, where the continental shelf widens.

Despite the potential fish with sustainable levels of exploitation are estimated at 9 300 tons for demersal fish and large pelagic and 22 000 tons for small pelagic domestic production varies between 1 600 and 1 900 tons of annual landings.
The majority of fishermen (95%) use boats 6 to 8 m long, fibreglass, equipped with outboard engines of 25 to 40 horses, including the crew varies between 3 and 4 fishermen.

Currently, the fisheries sector provides permanent employment of 3 600 persons of which 600 are distributed among five fishermen fishing sites affecting the capital and the three districts.

Climate

Among the most interesting sites there are Obock site and the site of Tadjoura one hand, with a hot and humid climate from April to October and cool and wet in winter. On the other hand, the coastal zone of South-East of Djibouti in the Arta district, offers substantial potentialities.
