Angola has a surface area of 35 million hectares, of which only 5 million
hectares are currently being cultivated, the State Secretary for Agriculture,
José Amaro Tati, said on Monday.
Tati stressed the need to make a major effort to increase production,
recalling the central government’s long term programme to reduce shortfalls of
some products, reports the Angolan news agency Angop.
The programme runs until 2025 and aims to ensure coverage 7 percent of
poultry needs and 50 percent of goat and cattle needs, while cutting milk
imports by 15 percent and expanding its consumption, Tati said. Another target
is total coverage of sugar consumption.
In comments to Italian entrepreneurs, Tati mentioned the government’s
financial effort to restore cotton processing capacity so that fabric “Made in
Angola” can eventually be produced, consequently reducing imports. (macauhub)
